The Road Ahead

Jan. 6 - I have had a great deal of fun over the years communicating with so many readers through this blog. My goal was to share some of my experiences in Japan, introduce you to some of the interesting people I have met, and tell you a little bit about the work my colleagues and I perform in Japan.

I look forward to continuing this work strengthening U.S.-Japan relations from my new position in Washington, D.C.

Last month I transferred back to Washington, D.C. to begin my new job as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Japan and Korea in the State Department. I leave Japan with many fond memories.

While I am sad to leave my interesting life in Tokyo and shall miss my friends in Japan, I am excited at the prospect of continuing work to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations from a new position. This job will allow me to continue visiting Japan, which is a real bonus for me.

Because of this new job, I will not be contributing to this blog on a regular basis. We will leave the archive of my blogs on the U.S. Embassy Tokyo website so readers can continue to access past blogs. I may from time to time contribute "guest blogs" as well. I hope that you have enjoyed reading these blogs as much as I have in writing them.

Dear Mr. Zumwalt,

Congratulations on your getting a new job in Washington DC, which is pretty far away from Japan! I wish you a fruitful year!

I was very happy that you have got an opportunity to have a job in US which is quite far from Japan.
