Friendship Day 2009

Sept. 11 - Over 5,000 friends and neighbors joined the U.S. Embassy community in Tokyo for our annual open house at the Embassy compound in Roppongi on August 29. Everyone ate their fill of all the usual American picnic food - barbecued ribs, burgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes etc. And in the name of Japanese-American cultural exchange, Sakamoto Ryoma was even there promoting his favorite brand of burgers.

We had a good old small-town America parade, rock bands playing, people dancing, characters from Sesame Street hanging out with the crowd, and even a little education in the form of an "earthquake experience" truck provided by our local fire department.

If you're in Tokyo next year in late August, please come and join the fun.

Until next time,

Jim
