Earthquake and Tsunami

March 15 - Today the flag in front of the U.S. Embassy is flying at half staff. We took this step to remember the many victims of the tragic earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan last Friday.

Ambassador Roos (center, with megaphone) confirms the welfare of the Embassy staff after a temporary evacuation of the Chancery building immediately following the March 11 earthquake.

Since then, I have received many calls and e-mails from concerned American friends about the situation here. Many asked where they can donate money for the relief effort. Others volunteered to come to Japan to help. All of them are thinking of you at this terrible time.

Until next time,

Jim
