Celebrating Independence Day in Tokyo

Ann and I greeting arriving guests

July 8 - Ann and I celebrated American Independence Day this year at Ambassador and Susie Roos’ home. They invited over 1,600 guests to join us in celebrating America’s 235th birthday.

Rather than describe this event, I thought I would share with you photographs of the festivities.

Please send in your comments!

Until next time,

Jim

Various bands played lively music, including the national anthems of the United States and Japan.

After that, Ambassador Roos addressed the gathering.

Colorful booths gave out free samples of food and things.

People were having a good time at our Ambassador's residence, both indoors and out in the garden.

A special cake honored "Operation Tomodachi" efforts to aid the Tohoku region after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
